Non-Vintage (171eme Edition)
Reims - Champagne
The 171eme Edition of Krug Grande Cuvee is a wine of staggering complexity. The nose unfolds with brioche, toasted hazelnut and dried fruits, layered with honey, marzipan and a whisper of white pepper. The palate is at once powerful and graceful, with a mousse of extraordinary finesse. Flavours of candied citrus, gingerbread and roasted almonds dance across the palate, supported by a backbone of chalky minerality. The finish seems to last an eternity.
Krug Grande Cuvee is unique among Champagnes in its ambition: to recreate the fullest expression of Champagne every year, regardless of vintage variation. The Chef de Cave draws upon a vast library of reserve wines spanning more than a decade, blending approximately 120 individual wines from multiple vintages and villages to achieve the House's signature richness and complexity. Each Edition is a new interpretation of the Krug ideal.
Founded in 1843 by Joseph Krug, the House of Krug has maintained an unwavering commitment to crafting Champagne of the highest quality. Every wine is fermented in small oak casks, a practice largely abandoned by other houses for its difficulty and expense. The family's vision, now in its sixth generation, places the Grande Cuvee at the heart of everything they do.
Unlike most non-vintage Champagnes, Krug Grande Cuvee benefits enormously from additional cellaring. This 171eme Edition will develop beautifully over the next 15 to 20 years. Serve at 9 to 11 degrees in a large white wine glass rather than a traditional flute to allow the complex aromas to express themselves fully. This is a Champagne that demands contemplation.
